are the minimalist brands the future? good question, i think we would have both, now i think its great when there is less noise and clutter on the packaging the brand name really pops out, but i dont know if thats true if i were younger. i know for kids, they would probably go for the tiger thats on the frosted flakes cereal box or the three eleves on the rice krispie treat cereal box, there is a whole strategy to that, to get the kids screaming for the cartoon character on the cereal box so the parent will buy it. and companies want results. remember the tropicana redesign? lol…. i would think the brand names will probably still retain a lot of information on their packaging but probably use less than three fonts. anyhow imagine all the brands, trying to do the same? it would look like what we have today, but just more negative space in the isles and more of the product maybe? maybe for new brand names, the minimalist approach may fly, and the more establish brands that we are already used to, not so much.
but for my response to the packaging above, i would gravitate towards the box with the cereal and milk! because i get more of a visual of what is and what it is intended for…same with nutella. what if you didnt know nutella and saw the minimal packaging on the two right? it could be nutella, face spread! jk. I love nutella. i dont know about the redbull drink if those arguments would work there, i think the keywords would be energy drink which are missing from the far right. but yes, the brand names really pop out when all the decor are removed and it is very streamlined and clean, but will it get the results the company desires? -R
